SABABC SCHOLARSHIPS IN LAW
The directors of SABABC are pleased to announce that Tina Parbhakar, a second year law student at the University of Victoria, and Karn Manhas, a first year law student at the University of British Columbia, have been awarded the 2007-2008 SABABC Scholarships in Law. The SABABC scholarship selection committee (chair Jindy Bhalla, Pinder Cheema, QC, and Amandeep Sandhu) was very impressed with the qualifications of all applicants and the materials submitted by them.
This year, applicants were asked to comment on whether the current policy in Canada concerning the recognition of foreign credentials and accreditation of foreign trained professionals, in particular with respect to professionals trained in South Asia, is a fair and reasonable balancing of the relevant factors and why or why not, together with recommendations to the policy makers in Canada. You can view the essays written by Tina and Karn in response to this issue by clicking here.
A formal presentation of the Scholarships to Tina and Karn will be made at the SABABC Gala to held on February 29, 2008.
